FEATURED REPRESENTATIVE

TIME WELL SPENT with Austin Nissly

Since I only work with Cutco during the summers, my goal is to maximize my time so that I will have the income at the end of the summer that will allow me to pursue my special interests during the year, go on spring-break and help my parents with my living expenses while I’m at Boston College. Vector is my “stepping-stone” and I focus intently to get as much out of the experience as possible. Any time there is an opportunity to learn more about sales and business – I take it. I meet one-on-one with my manager when I can to get extra tips and do my best to always make it to summer team meetings.

I usually do a 7-minute presentation about Cutco engraved closing gifts at 2-3 realtor offices per week and book my day with appointments and phone calls until 5 or 6PM each day. I average between 4 and 6 appointments per day. I like to end my work day by 6PM, when I usually go for a run in downtown St. Louis then cook dinner with Mike. Sometimes we meet friends out for dinner, go to a Cardinals baseball game, or visit with my siblings, parents, and 2 nephews, who all also live in St. Louis.

During a push period leading up to a conference, I live, eat and breathe Vector. I’ll get up around 7am to get showered and ready for my day. Usually by 8am, I’m making calls to set up more demos for the day or call previous customers to see if they need any more Cutco. My goal is always to have 8 appointments set for my day. Someone is bound to cancel or not show up which usually leaves me with 5-6 demos daily. If I’m early to a demo – I sit in my car and make calls. If someone cancels – I use that time to make more calls and work on contacting leads. I save processing all orders through ROLO for late at night (after 9pm) – when it’s too late to call prospective customers. This helps me really use every minute of the push period to my advantage. When I carve out this time to focus on just Cutco, I’m able to accomplish really great things –like winning an All-American Scholarship and outselling almost 40,000 other representatives for the campaign.

Vector has been a catalyst for doing some really great things in my life. During a recent demo, I ended up securing a great internship for myself in the financial industry for 2012. It was all based on my demo – he never even asked for my resume! But the best part is that I have the flexibility to work when I need to, and take a break when I need to focus on school. It can’t get much better than that!

Austin is an All-American Scholarship recipient for Campaign II, 2011. In addition to his schooling at Boston College and work with Vector, Austin has started a volunteer group called the Time Well Spent Gang which forges relationships with non-profits in the area to participate in community service. His Vector earnings are the reason he has been able to sponsor dinners at a local soup kitchen and well as other community service projects. Nissly has also used his Vector income to finance a new business on campus where he’ll be selling SEA Snap Back hats. He is a sophomore studying finance at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA. He began working with Vector in 2010 and has won an All-American Competition Scholarship.
