20s Feature

Your 20s are the ultimate “you” decade. You are young, ambitious, going places. The world is at your feet. You’ll never get this time back, so it needs to count. Here are 20 ways to make the most of your 20s.

1. Stretch Yourself

Take a job that stretches you and pushes you out of your comfort zone. There’s nothing like direct sales to teach you the confidence and people skills you need for life. Beach Body, Jamberry Nails, Avon, Mary Kay, and of course selling Cutco Cutlery with Vector are all direct selling ventures that can boost your income while giving you experience in a non-traditional, entrepreneurial adventure.

2. Go to a really big concert.

Burning Man, Coachella, Country Thunder, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits: A great music festival is a must in your 20s.

3. Dream Big

Make a vision board. Map out where you’d be in 20 years if all your dreams came true, and then figure out what path will take you there.

4. Drive something crazy-fast and cool.

(But be safe and wear your seatbelt!) Someday you might be driving a minivan full of French fries and car seats, so live it up now. Want a free BMW? For U.S. managers who qualify, Vector Marketing is paying the cost of a BMW lease.

5. Backpack.

Whether you are on the great American road trip or train hopping through Europe, traveling with only the belongings you can fit in a sack is ridiculously liberating. A weekend, a week, a month, a summer—just go!

6. Travel alone.

While you are at it, go somewhere new by yourself. That way, you can explore and relax on your own terms: No schlepping to that hot dog museum your friend wants to see or convincing someone to get out of their tourist comfort zone. Is there a place you’ve always wanted to visit in your 20s? Tell us about it in the comment section below.

7. Give back.

Find a cause that you care about, and commit to it for the long run. Whatever you are passionate about, service is a great way to help you see and appreciate the good in your own life.

8. Run a race.

Scramble through mud and obstacles at a Tough Mudder, a Spartan Race, or see if you’ve got what it takes to run a marathon. (Ok, even a half marathon.) Find something that will motivate and inspire you to love exercise for life.

9. Take a bike.

What better way to get to know your city than to cruise its streets and back roads on a bike? Biking is great for the environment and your heart, and it will help you appreciate where you live in a whole new way.

10. Shut up.

Talk less, listen more. Take time to really learn the art of active listening. People will like you so much more, and you may learn a thing or two when you genuinely listen to what they have to say.

11. Get rid of debt.

If you’ve got any lingering student loans or credit card debt, now is the time to scrimp, save, and work extra hard to eliminate what you owe.

12. Eat alone.

And not at McDonald’s or in your car. Take a table for one at your favorite restaurant or that place that you’ve always wanted to try and see how exhilarating it can be to really focus on the food.

13. Unplug for a weekend.

Hide your tablet. Put your smartphone in a drawer. No texting, Snapchat, or surfing the net. A two-day break from technology can really clear your mind and help you be present in your life.

14. Start saving.

The money you save now will earn a whole lot more interest than the money you put away in 30 years, so start up your money train as soon as possible. Even a little saved in your 20s can grow to a lot. Just $20 a week is better than nothing and you probably won’t miss it.

15. Talk, don’t text.

When was the last time you called your mom? Or your grandma? Practice actual conversational skills by calling someone you love and having an emoji-free conversation.

16. Scare the $@#& out of yourself.

Sky dive, paraglide, swim with sharks or stingrays. Now is the time to face your fears and do something that your stodgy, 40-year-old self might never let you do.

17. Invest in yourself.

Pursue your education, learn a new skill, explore interesting hobbies, learn a language.

18. Attend an adult pep rally.

A summer conference or a convention can feel a whole lot like a high school pep rally. Except now you’re wearing much better clothes. And, like #17, you’re probably learning something new and investing in yourself.

19. Talk to strangers.

Strike up a conversation in an elevator or in line at the grocery store. Everyone has a story, and strangers are just friends you haven’t gotten to know yet. Added bonus: It’s great practice for any sales job, too. (Remember #2, 5, 6, 10, and 12? Those are great times to talk to strangers!)

20. Live in your dream city.

Always been drawn to the bright lights of New York? Dream of surfing and sunning in Los Angeles? Move there! One of the best parts about Vector Marketing is that you can work practically anywhere. Add to that a flexible schedule and a potential income that lets you pursue your passions and dreams, and your 20s just might be your golden years.
