Work Opportunity
Mike shows a Cutco piece to interested customers.

Vector Marketing has been a great match for tens of thousands of college students. The most successful students make a commitment to the effort, respond to training with a positive attitude, and communicate frequently when they need assistance.

Sales positions offer the potential for great rewards; they also demand resilience and commitment. Students who have a low tolerance for risk, or who must earn a guaranteed income may become quickly frustrated in a sales position, where earnings can be uncertain and largely dependent on effort.

On the other hand – if you are looking for a challenge, a chance to build new skills and want to stretch your limits – apply with Vector Marketing and start on the path toward success today!.

Student Work Program

Vector Marketing is different. When you think about the kinds of settings and work that students typically do, what comes to mind? Summer camps, restaurants, retail, babysitting, manual labor, and office help to name a few. Those can all be great experiences, but THIS is not that.

Why are so many students attracted to the Vector opportunity? Because we offer a tremendous learning experience in a flexible and fun environment.

We will share with you the best strategies for selling Cutco and train you to do everything you need to do to be successful. Our managers are here to help you and are a great resource. Because you will work as an independent contractor, nobody at Vector is going to set your schedule, tell you when to get to work, or how much time you should put into the effort. Ultimately, it’s up to you.

At the same time, if you choose to work with us, and commit to high standards of performance, you will learn a tremendous amount about yourself, about others, and about business. Not only that, the income opportunity can greatly exceed what you’d expect from a typical position.

Part or Full Time Work

While Vector is known for our student work opportunity, an increasing number of adults whose school years are behind them are joining us every day.

With Vector, you can set your own schedule to accommodate the needs of another job, family commitments & personal interests. Because you will work as an independent contractor, you have both flexibility and control. It’s not at all unusual for our representatives to work for several months, and then take time off to go on a mission or take a vacation. Kids off from school? No problem here because you set your own appointments.

This growing group of reps may have joined us to supplement their income or to help fund a passion, but find that Vector is a great fit and they choose to pursue a career here. You decide.

Being Smart About Summer Work

Summer jobs certainly aren’t what they used to be. The “lazy” days at the beach, running after kids at day camp, or clearing tables after the lunch rush were the typical summer jobs of previous generations. But with today’s dizzying array of options for how to spend a summer, how do you choose?

It’s not just about getting a job – it’s about getting the job you want and building a career. So, while those traditional summer jobs are still out there, are they the right choice for you? Summer work plays an important role in your career development because it’s one way to get relevant experience and distinguish you from other applicants.

Wondering what skills future employers will be looking for? Regardless of what career you plan to pursue, corporate recruiters are looking for a few characteristics from everyone they hire. Wondering what those are?

Training

New representatives are invited to participate in training, normally over three consecutive days, at the local office. This initial training seminar is designed to instill confidence in the trainee who may have limited work experience. While the training is unpaid, most participants consider it to be a worthwhile and productive use of their time. The training program is interactive and engaging, with a focus on role-playing and building confidence.

In training, a Vector Marketing manager will review the fundamentals of Cutco, introduce the product’s features and benefits, and teach reps how to complete a Cutco sales demonstration, which is based on the principles of a sales cycle. Following the same steps taught at the college business courses, representatives learn to build rapport, identify needs, offer solutions, answer objections, and complete a sale. They practice listening skills and interpersonal communication throughout the presentation, and learn to become comfortable with many different types of people.

Continuous reinforcement of the basics and ongoing encouragement are a fundamental part of Vector Marketing’s program. Representatives are expected to touch base with the office by phone on a regular basis to report on their progress. This call is important to the office because reps work off site. It is even more valuable to the rep because office staff can provide encouragement, assistance, and advice on overcoming obstacles. This kind of support helps reps learn how to deal with rejection and respond to “no thank you’s” while developing both character and confidence.

Regular conferences provide another opportunity to sharpen skills, such as goal-setting, time management, phone skills, referral generation, and financial management.

Working as a Rep

Vector’s sales representatives market Cutco products under the supervision of an office manager. Working as independent contractors, representatives determine their own schedules and work hours, which may vary according to their needs. Daily activities may include the following:

  • Scheduling appointments with potential customers through personal referrals. Presenting Cutco products in the customer’s home in a demonstration that normally lasts 45 minutes to an hour.
  • Filling and submitting customer orders.
  • Reviewing personal performance with the local office manager over the phone daily.
  • Attending weekly staff meetings, advanced training workshops and conferences on personal sales techniques, consumer behavior, time management, and effective communication.

As with any type of business, representatives get started with people they know. In training, representatives learn how to get referrals (a key element of any business transaction). This is how representatives grow their business.

Does this mean that within a few days or weeks, reps are meeting with people they don’t know personally? Yes. Our referral program is based on a “friends of friends” approach which has proven to be quite effective. In addition, they learn how to qualify a prospect’s likelihood to purchase, which optimizes the potential for a sale.

Field trainers are also available to take newer reps on appointments and share referrals.
